Cyanotype Kits
The Story :
These cyanotype kits were designed at the start of the pandemic in 2020. After learning that I was no longer allowed to tutor face to face, I decided I needed to find a way to continue my small business. I started to create what is now known as 'The Full Cyanotype Kit' as a way to reach people remotely. After selling 500+ kits, I decided to set up an Etsy shop which has sold an additional 1200+ kits. Since 2020 I have expanded my range to include a variety of kits, ranging in user skill level.
I thoroughly enjoy designing and creating these kits and would like to personally thank those of you who have supported this endevour.
You can purchase a kit directly through my website or by visiting my Etsy store or Not on the High Street store.
Prices will vary from site to site due to variations on the host commission rates, please shop around so you can get the best deal at the time of purchase. If you have any questions at all please get in touch. At the moment I can only fulfill orders to the UK.
What is a cyanotype print?
A cyanotype is a cameraless photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Cyanotypes are one of the earliest forms of photography, discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1842. Cyanotype printing was made famous by Kent based scientist Anna Atkins in her book titled 'Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions' in 1843. To begin, paper or fabric is hand coated with two ultra-violet sensitive iron compounds and left to dry in the dark. To create a print, objects are arranged on top of UV sensitive paper and exposed to UV light rays from the sun. Once exposed, the print is washed in tap water to fix the image revealing a striking blue & white silhouette image.
