What is a cyanotype?
A cyanotype is a cameraless photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Cyanotypes are one of the earliest forms of photography, discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1842. Cyanotype printing was made famous by Kent based scientist Anna Atkins in her book titled 'Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions' in 1843. The paper inside this box has been hand coated with two ultra-violet sensitive iron compounds and left to dry in the dark. To create a print, objects are arranged on top of UV sensitive paper and exposed to UV light rays from the sun. Once exposed, the print is washed in tap water to fix the image revealing a striking blue & white silhouette image. Fun for all ages and abilities!

Do these cyanotype papers expire?
My advice is to use within 2-3 months of purchase as they are coated fresh. Cyanotype paper can expire due to the natural oxidisation of the chemicals applied to the surface. However you may find your papers will still react to UV light long beyond this recommendation with varying results.

Despatch times:I will endevour to dispatch your order within 2-4 days. All orders are delivered using Evri and a tracking code will be provided.

Gift wrapping:
If you’re ordering as a gift, I’m more than happy to gift wrap in tissue paper & add a gift note. Just mark your item as a gift and I'll do the rest!

Please note:
Please note these papers are hand-coated,  not machine coated. I mix the chemicals by hand, then carefully brush the chemicals onto Seawhites of Brighton cartridge paper and therefore each sheet will not be identical. There may be the occasional blemish which shouldn’t affect the overall beauty of the prints.
